The group listing will always show everybody as offline. This is part of a "bugfix".
FD had to turn it off in a quick hack to enable the groups rosters to load again at all.

So if you check via the groups menu, that info is not accurate.

There is a limitation for groups bigger than 1000 members (iirc). These groups will show all members as offline. So for both Mobius groups, you need to actually enter the server. Then, to see commanders that aren't in the same instance as you, you need to have them in your friends list.
So no, I don't think you'll need to ask for a re-invite...but then again, I'm no admin...just a guy who picks things up on forums here and there ;)

Grouping by on-line time instead of region?

It may be a good idea to send a join request for the Mobius group since your times align more with overseas players. Once it's approved, please leave the Mobius PvE group to make room for the next commander. If you also have a few friends in Mobius PvE, you can always create your own private group and have friends from both Mobius groups join you in your private group to wing up. ;)
Yep, I did the same when I didn't realize Mobius was for the Americas.

That said ... are we big enough to consider at least four (4) groups? I'm still new around here, but it would make more sense if we created them based on typical on-line time, instead of region? Say ...

    Mobius 0006: UTC 00-06:00 => ACT 10-16:00, CET 01-07:00, USEST 19-01:00, USPST 16-22:00
    Mobius 0612: UTC 06-12:00 => ACT 16-22:00, CET 07-13:00, USEST 01-07:00, USPST 22-04:00
    Mobius 1218: UTC 12-18:00 => ACT 22-04:00, CET 13-19:00, USEST 07-13:00, USPST 04-10:00
    Mobius 1824: UTC 18-24:00 => ACT 04-10:00, CET 19-01:00, USEST 13-19:00, USPST 10-16:00

I used 6 hour blocks for the 4 groups, and it's to be considered a "loosely."
Instead, we could also do 6 groups of 4 hour blocks too ... also very "loose" in blocking.

    Mobius 0004: UTC 00-04:00 => ACT 10-14:00, CET 01-05:00, USEST 19-23:00, USPST 16-20:00
    Mobius 0408: UTC 04-08:00 => ACT 14-18:00, CET 05-09:00, USEST 23-03:00, USPST 20-00:00
    Mobius 0812: UTC 08-12:00 => ACT 18-22:00, CET 09-13:00, USEST 03-07:00, USPST 00-04:00
    Mobius 1216: UTC 12-16:00 => ACT 22-02:00, CET 13-17:00, USEST 07-11:00, USPST 04-08:00
    Mobius 1620: UTC 16-20:00 => ACT 02-06:00, CET 17-21:00, USEST 11-15:00, USPST 08-12:00
    Mobius 2024: UTC 20-24:00 => ACT 06-10:00, CET 21-01:00, USEST 15-19:00, USPST 12-16:00

Or even full-tilt, 8 groups -- although I think we're going to get 1-3 groups with far fewer members (so more like having 6 anyway) ...

    Mobius 0003: UTC 00-03:00 => ACT 10-13:00, CET 01-04:00, USEST 19-22:00, USPST 16-19:00
    Mobius 0306: UTC 03-06:00 => ACT 13-16:00, CET 04-07:00, USEST 22-01:00, USPST 19-22:00
    Mobius 0609: UTC 06-09:00 => ACT 16-19:00, CET 07-10:00, USEST 01-04:00, USPST 22-01:00
    Mobius 0912: UTC 09-12:00 => ACT 19-22:00, CET 10-13:00, USEST 04-07:00, USPST 01-04:00
    Mobius 1215: UTC 12-15:00 => ACT 22-01:00, CET 13-16:00, USEST 07-10:00, USPST 04-07:00
    Mobius 1518: UTC 15-18:00 => ACT 01-04:00, CET 16-19:00, USEST 10-13:00, USPST 07-10:00
    Mobius 1821: UTC 18-21:00 => ACT 04-07:00, CET 19-22:00, USEST 13-16:00, USPST 10-13:00
    Mobius 2124: UTC 21-24:00 => ACT 07-10:00, CET 22-01:00, USEST 16-19:00, USPST 13-16:00

Just an idea. People pick the 6 (or 4 or 3) hour block they spend the most time in and that's the group they join.

Other than the group admins having to approve new members, I think we could go ahead and try the 4 (or even 6 or 8) groups and see how many move over. Then slowly, as more members join, start asking people to drop from the two (2) current groups. I think it's worth the experiment, as long as the group admins don't mind the overhead.

Otherwise, forget I said anything. ;)

That's a good idea and would be something to seriously consider when the time comes that we need to split the group again. But until then, it's probably best to keep as many people as possible in each of the existing two groups in order to provide more opportunities to wing up, etc.

Just keep my post in mind then. I went back and forth on this, but I think going to at least 6 groups might be best.

I mean, initially I thought the 4 groups x 6 hours being the best. E.g., for me, Mobius 0006 as I'm on USEST 19-01:00.

But to be honest, I'm sometimes on a little earlier than 19:00, but usually not later than 23:00 ... sans when I'm trying to complete something, and "Run-overs" will be common among wings. So narrowing it down more, either Mobius 0004 or Mobius 0003 for USEDT 19-23:00 or even 19-22:00 would be best. Because I'm going to be on 19-22:00 USEST the most, and get off by 23:00 in most cases. I think most people will agree on a 4 or even 3 hour block they will be on the most, often getting on a little early or going several hours later when trying to complete something. Using a 6 hour block is almost too broad, there will be more overlap and far more times to "miss" one another.

I think 4 or 3 hours narrows it down better. Because in the end ... we're really aiming for "common starting hours" more than "finishing hours," because typical sessions are probably 2-3 hours, and others run 8+ any way.

Polling various 3 hour blocks people start playing the most?

Postby thebs » Thu May 12, 2016 11:52 pm

I hit the FAQ, and it appears I do not have permissions to create a poll:
- faq.php#f2r3

In the interest of future considerations, in case FD doesn't come up with advanced group management, I was going to create a poll asking which 3 hour blocks people start playing the most. So over many coming months, as people answer, we can get a good -- even if informal and not exact -- distribution of when people usually get on. From that we could decide if 4 groups or even 8 are better.

Just an idea.

Having read the last few messages, my opinion is simple: if we start breaking up the group even further, it's very reason of existence is becoming void and null. Why not just sticking with solo or out own private groups? I for example play half the week in the morning and half in the evening due to complicated work schedule. Which group I am supposed to pick in such a scenario? Also, as it is and I rarely see others, possible exceptions only when I participate in some CG.

Divining Mobius was already bad enough, and it was done because Frontier gave no other choice to us really. Fracturing it to pieces even more, it's gonna be the end of it.

The only real solution can come from Frontier in the end, everything else is just avoiding the real problem.

Yes, Frontier should implement advanced group management and an ability to handle the numbers. But if they don't, I documented a possible workaround here for when Möbius hits 40K+ members.

It's certainly better to pick your most common start-time block that to try to split up by regions even further. That's all I was pointing out, not saying it would be "better" to do it now.

Just going to agree with Johnluke and charlie2alpha here. Dividing it once was bad enough, and like charlie2alpha, I also play at different times of day, depending on the day. I took a 2 or 3 month break from Elite out of frustration with that (and of losing around 70 million in rebuys because I wasn't getting any support in the Exioce CZ because of it), and so I played some Fallout 4 for a while, which I don't regret.

I always did plan to come back to Elite, and I started missing my Cutter, and I am now finally starting to see some random hollow-dots out there. Still not as many as I was used to pre-split, and a lot of them don't reply when I send a quick "o7" in local chat, but it's getting a bit better.

Further sub-dividing the group will only make it worse.

Well, in my first CZ, which was this weekend's CG, an Imperial Clipper nearly caused my first ever mega-rebuy (4.8M for my Python). I'm sure that's chump change compared to what happened to you, but still scary enough for my little piggy bank. ;)

I haven't played Fallout 4 since January.
