I only remember about the Teamspeak channel just as I've had enough and am turning the game off. :(

Need some reminder for myself beforehand.

Rename your Elite shortcut to something appropriate like "EliteD - DNF TS"

I do that with all games where I play online and with TS - it was the only way I ever remembered.

I saw a wealth of people in space while running missions the other day. Still most don't come on to Teamspeak, most don't seem interesting in talking in game or don't know how, hopefully Frontier implements some kind of group chat in the future so we can talk to each other. I wonder how many even know about the forum here or that we have a Teamspeak.

I mean, why join the group if you don't want to interact with others? Isn't that what Solo mode is for...

Eh, it's fiendishly hard to communicate and keep track of other in the game as it is. So let's hope they improve that loads, cause it sorely needs it.

I could swear I read about a VOIP/VON function being planned at some stage.

On the main forum, somewhere, but I've not been there for a while and can't say where, exactly.

When opening the comms menu (beside the messages in upper left corner) with the keybind assigned, you can select a ship, 'open comms' and it should hail the guy. If he somehow accepts the hail, you can talk to one another with cool radio FX voice distortion and comm sounds... at least I saw a YT vid showing it that way in beta2.
So worst case, go hail the CMDR on the other ship with in game comms.
Ah, they commented it is a bit laggy compared to Teamspeak, though.

For TS3, to enhance immersion, there is a nice plug in called 'crosstalk'! It simulates radio comms distortion (tweakable!) on the receivers end.
So when YOU have it installed OTHERS sound like talking over a VHF AM radio.
