Just bought No Man's Sky

Postby Loriath » Sun Sep 24, 2017 1:53 pm

I have been wanting this game for a while. I want something to relax with, kick my feet up on my desk and play with a Gamepad.

It is downloading now. Heard some good things about it with the latest patches.

Anyone got any tips for a total NMS newb that is usually bad with most games?

Waiting for a sale.
It's time to give this another go.

Yeah, take advantage of Steam's refund policy

Only joking, I haven't played it myself. Good luck, I hope its truly improved.

Me too, Loriath. Just got it some weeks ago. The latest update should have improved it, they say ...
All in all, it is a bit like tranquilit for me, like a rest from Elite. Simpler in many ways, if not all, yet with some nice points. I just feel comfortable that if planetary landing ever happen to Elite, they certainly will not look like this ... while I wouldn't call it bad, don't get me wrong -- it earns some sympathy points, absolutely -- it is just a game on a much simpler level. Totally legit. Just get me a way to acquire those bloody antimatter units ... :D
(Hint: If you get a free Antimatter unit, DO NOT spend it aside on creating jumponium).
As said, perfect for taking a rest.

You might need to find something to protect your retinas from the colour scheme.

Indeed, beige might not be all that interesting but NMS is a plethora of Neon pistachio, and hot-pink...

The guy who supervised the colour scheme must have been colour blind.

Well, with a few hours in it, I can say I like it.

I sit back in my chair, feet up, with a controller and relax as I listen to podcasts.

To the couple of you that were cynical, have you tried it? If not, then I suggest you do.

Yes, the colourful cartoony aspect is a little overdone, but makes it even more feel like a sit back and relax game. And the best thing yet, I have not run into any Tele-Tubbies so far. :P

I wanted it to be a relaxing experience and that it has become. Died once 2 steps from my ship, but that was because I was playing dumb. The collection aspect is ok, but I think that this is one of those games that will take me a while to figure out what is really useful and what stuff is crap.

My rating with less than 10 hours is 7/10.

I got it recently, and like you Lor, I find it a great game to just unwind with. I have been enjoying it and slowly following the Atlas story. That's the other thing I like about it. You can put the game down for a while and know you can pick it up where you left it.

As much as I like Elite, games like it (always on) make you feel you have to keep up to date with the happenings, even if you aren't playing. You can miss important game plot points just because you were on holiday for a fortnight. That can then put you at a disadvantage when you pick it back up again - at least it could mean doing a butt ton of research to figure out what you need to do.

Each have their place and with recent updates it seems NMS is a very playable, pickupable game. Elite is much more in for the long haul :D

The problem with ELite plot is that it's a Google game.
As soon as 2.4 will be out, you'll have all the new thargoid info on reddit, and Cannon, and unless you read these there's little to no chance to find anything on your own. It's like the real world.. you visit places with a travel guide.
I haven't even visited the guardians sites because of that.. Saw them on youtube, red all about them, no incentive to go.. and i have not seen any Galnet info about their location or came upon it by chance.
But well.. Elite is a MMO, NMS is a solo game... can't really compare.
