Retro Games Live Streams

Postby NeoWave Interleave » Fri Mar 10, 2017 9:47 pm

I've been having a go at streaming some retro games lately & although I haven't got round to Elite yet, and I surely will!, I thought some people might be interested in a trip down memory lane? These are the 3 I've done and are from the 8-bit home computer, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum from the 1980s.

This one is Chaos: The Battle of Wizards, of which Chaos Reborn is the modern successor of:

The next two are Rebelstar & its sequel Rebelstar II: Alien Encounter, which eventually evolved via Laser Squad etc in to the XCom series of games:

I certainly enjoyed playing them again, and will probably be doing a game once a week.

Cool. I don't have the time or money to do something like that though!

Here's the recording of my live stream of Chuckie Egg, released 1984, from 14/03/2017 (OT: anyone else finding it really hard to stop typing 3303 as the year? ).

You have no idea how much of a sucker I am for retro games. My first ever computer was a British made computer called a Sinclair ZX81, back in not surprisingly 1981, although I do not think the year and the ZX81 name are related. I remember it well, it had 1k of memory, no sound and was black and white only with block graphics. It did have a few games including a chess game. How on earth you program a chess game inside 1k is beyond me. But I digress, the next computer I owned was a Sinclair Spectrum (I think it was called a Timex 1000 in the USA?) The base model was 16k, but I was posh and got the 48k model. It was this computer that I first played Elite on.

I enjoyed seeing the the videos of the old games again, thank you NeoWave.

I have a Spectrum Emulator on a disk somewhere, what emulator are you using?

One of my old computers was an Atari ST. Not sure if anyone is interested but you can still get hold of a very good emulator called Steem. It still works well but can need a bit of tinkering to get it working. Here is the URL: http://steem.atari.st/download.htm

I am totally into retrogaming and still code simple demos in ML, for the C64. It is a beautiful machine. I use VICE and the KickAss assembler.

I also play Gameboy Advance games, mainly Pokémon and Final Fantasy, on my Android phone.
