Air BnB anyone?

Has anyone used or is planning to use Air BnB? I'm planning a trip in September/October time with a mate of mine, we plan on touring Europe by train spending 2 or 3 days in each city we stop at.

My only issue is Air BnB are a little unclear about how their deposit system works, so i don't know how much cash i'd need to front. if i have to pay the deposit weeks in advance, on a 5 stop trip i could end up £2000 out of pocket until i get back and that would make it a bit expensive.

I'm also looking for peeps who are thinking of using Air BnB but haven't yet joined as if i send you an invite i get £14 off my holiday when you book, and so do you. if that's you send me a PM and i'll get you an invite sorted.

The other option is if anyone lives in either Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Venice, Berlin or Amsterdam and fancies a couple of guests for a few days in September/October let me know, i'll be bringing my gaming laptop and controller so save me a port in your router ;)

Some friends have used it without issues in the States and in Europe and I know a guy who is renting his apartment in Athens through AirBnB.
If you plan to visit Balkan are let me know I might be able to find you something cheaper than a hotel and safe

Not used it, but be aware that on Radio 4 on Friday they had an article on how Berlin in Germany has made renting out private residences illegal.

that's going to make things difficult, we might have to skip Germany in that case.

As we will be starting in Plymouth I'm thinking the first leg of the journey could be on the ferry to Santander in Spain, where we go from there is anyone's guess but we plan on getting a 5 in 15 Eurorail pass and moving cities every 2 or 3 days.

I've had friends who have used the service in the USA and Canada. No issues at all. Not sure about the deposit system though..
