50% of our members are European. This concerns all of us.

You might like or dislike John Oliver, his style or humour, or the fact that he left the UK to become famous in the US.
Whatever, I kinda enjoyed his piece here.

Even if you don't know the show he's talking about, (like me !), if you don't have tears in your eyes at the end of the video, you might wanna check your pulse. IMHO you may be dead already ;)

Don't want to politicize too much because I'd rather avoid controversy if at all possible :D But there is a very interesting distinction to be made between the term "Migrant" and the term "Refugee", as well. Refugee's are protected and guaranteed certain rights based on international law, whereas migrants are not, and, allegedly, a lot of the problems and mistreatment of those fleeing civil war in Syria have to do with that distinction.

That aside, for those of us that would like to do something, but are too far away to be able to hand out blankets and bottles of water, there is a very easy donation process through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

It takes less than five minutes, and requires less information than ordering something off of Amazon...

There is a link here if it's alright if I post it on this forum...

Yes I have used it a number of times myself. Its not immediately clear when you go to the site how to donate. To the right of the header is a link called "GET INVOLVED", click that, then you have a number of options from subscribing to the newsletter, etc but you want to click "DONATE", then choose your currency then you can choose what you would like to give. Its very easy.

I can't see the video in the UK. Perhaps it can't get past border security ;)

Seriously though, I think that everyone is an individual and should be treated as such. If I had to flee abroad I wouldn't like to be treated on the grounds of the actions of someone else from my birth place. Migration goes in both directions, literally. I remember in the eighties when loads of construction workers went to Germany for employment. (from UK)

There's more to it I know but we are talking about people.

Now that is really surprising. It is available in Germany, and usually it is the Germans who can't see shit on YouTube because of some bullshit copyright dispute between YouTube and the German Copyright mafia (GEMA)!
