Do any Beeb users remember using these commands to copy machine code games?

It went like this:

*OPT 1,2
*LOAD"(program name or blank for next block on tape)"

Then the program file when loaded presented loads of hexadecimal numbers that you had to (sort of) compile into a certain order to make a copy. I remember '&E00' appearing a lot.

Anyone? Just for memory's sake.

A bit before my time I think, but it sounds like an awfully complicated way to make a copy

It wasn't really. My mate showed me which bits to copy and in what order and putting '&' in the right place. I did it parrot fashion. The reason for doing it this way was when a tape was getting so worn out that if you tried tape to tape copying it just copied the degraded parts so even by recording at a higher level and avoiding distortion you still had to keep rewinding to load the block/s that were 'audibly' weak. By loading it into the system and then saving it back onto tape you could get a clean copy.

It was used to save 'protected' programs.

I put this up because I'm interested to see if anyone else did this, or if my friend had some 'inside info' wink wink.

By the way, Elite wouldn't let you do this but my mate also found a way
