Does that mean I get treated worse when travelling outside of my powers territory? AFAIK, yes. People from other powers can attack you on their territories without becoming wanted for it. The opposite it true too, of course. Does anyone know if travelling in a system outside the Powerplay 'bubbles'...

Just got back from that area. Nearest station I found was Sothis, belongs to the Sirius Corp and has repairs.

No great advice apart from to try and avoid large stars or close binary systems. Best of luck!

I think I decked out my Viper to a top spec for around 2.5million, though even at around a million it would be up to a reasonable spec. I fitted out an Eagle for around a million once with decent weapons, mirrored armour and good shields.

I have a yellow Hauler from my early days. I reckon a fuel limpet and good frame shift drive on that ...

When I'm back from my exploration trip I'm certainly going to give mining a go. If I can hit some valuable rocks then all the better. Even if it's not as profitable as straight trading or combat it might be an interesting change of gameplay.
