Thanks again - that worked. I had to fly 1500ls to the nav beacon only to find that the USS was right where I'd been. No way of knowing if the USS wouldn't ever spawn without scanning the Nav Beacon, but never mind - it's done now.

Nah - discovery scan to see if there's anything juicy, and move on. However, when I did find a system with an ammonia or earth-like, I scanned the whole system except for asteroids. I also didn't bother with anything further out than 100k ls unless it was worth a lot.
