Re: Too hot for a graphics card?

I build Mini-ITX systems so the front intake fan is for the drives, right side intake fan is for the CPU and the GPU is flush on the left side, pulling in cool air directly from the outside. The exhaust is then via the rear, both PSU and GPU.

I always remain within 45-65C.

Re: Will a new mobo help?

Sure there are a lot of reasons to not like win 10. But many of the DX features VR rely on are at best partially supported in win 8 and not supported at all in win 7. That's why I finally moved to Win10, Win8 was required for the Oculus Touch. I also found out any Win7/8 key I've tried (OEM...

Re: cpu fan mounting screws

What fansink is it? Usually fans degrade with time, so it's usually worth it to buy a new unit if it's more than 12-24 months ago.

Re: Was Considering a New Laptop

So then I thought about those mini computers last night. Wow, those things are cheap. You get what you pay for in some cases. Intel overprices the NUC. Zotac was early with the ZBox series (lots of various options and form-factors, a half-dozen more than NUC), and Gigabyte has many options in the B...

Re: Will a new mobo help?

Don't use XHCI (USB 3.0) for legacy controllers. I plug even my X-56 into EHCI (USB 2.0) ports for a reason.

Doesn't matter if you're running NT6.1 (Windows 7) or NT6.4 aka NT10 (Windows 10).

Re: Need Help Finding Case for New Build

I don't like to buy bleeding edge gear, but i do believe in future proofing. In terms of the house that you are going to build your gaming universe from, that case is a very solid foundation. (I had to make do with a cheap case for awhile and it is just not worth it to put superior gear in a inferi...

So need to get into Project Cars VR

I really need to get into Project Cars VR with my Oculus Rift, since I have the Thrustmaster Wireless GT Cockpit. Picked it up for around US$130 at a CompUSA going out of business in Delaware around 2010 or so. - http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/ferrari-wireless-gt-cockpit-430-scuderia-edition h...

Re: Need Help Finding Case for New Build

IMO you can not find a better all around case than the Cooler Master Cosmos II https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119252 There is more than enough space for anything you could use it for (save maybe some of the 6+ GPU crypto currency mining rigs). Very durable doors and tooll...

Un-intentional Grounding? (sorry, an American football reference)

Sounds like a pin or something on your mainboard is grounded. Either that or it could be your speaker plug is getting grounded against your case, when you plug it in. Did you re-align your mainboard? Bump the case? Anything else you can think of that would introduce some contact between the metal ca...

Your neighborhood Mini-ITX Wennie

With the availability of 210mm (8.3") or shorter "ITX" sized, US$530 GTX 1080 (as well as the new, US$450 1070 Ti), or even low-cost US$140 GTX 1060 video cards, I'm still buying Elite 110 (full ATX PS) and SilverStone SG05 (SFX PS) cases for portability. But that's just me. Heck, the...
