If a limpet gets hit in combat there is a chance it will be destroyed (nearly 100% it seems) so it is a calculated risk to enter combat while a limpet is repairing. Nice, I think you had the least interesting encounter so you have a lot to look forward to.

Scouts are always instantly hostile (as you learned), everything else is peaceful unless provoked... or if they appear in same instance as Scouts are only hostile because Scouts are.
