Re: Minimum requirements for laptop

Oh, BTW, the 'big advantage' Intel has is that they 'control' the GPU interconnect, and it's largely software. The few, specialized systems that use AMD's advanced I/O MMU even last decade with direct GPU 'as a peer to the CPU' roasted Intel. Had AMD been able to control the GPU interconnect, we wou...

Re: Minimum requirements for laptop

Look at TDP, and die size. AMDs can't match the Intel architecture Which architecture? Pre-Zen? Sure. AMD hasn't had an advantage since the early Hammer. Post-Zen? Not so fast. Not only is i-Core is falling behind. Plus now that Zen2 (3rd gen) is on TSMC's 7nm feature size, Intel is the one in trou...

Re: Best GPU - monitor connection method?

You actually don't have the choice with a 144hz display. HDMI and DVI can't go that fast, so it's DP only. You learn something new every day. Thanks. This isn't quite true ... HDMI 1.3+, provides up to 340 MHz of bandwidth , way, way up from the original 165 MHz. That's easily enough to do 120Hz at...

Re: Minimum requirements for laptop

gaming on laptops is usually not a good idea anyway. And don't be impressed by lithography numbers. AMD will always manage to provide 7nm cooking stoves to gamers worldwide :) I disagree. Both AMD and Intel have to 'throttle' or 'thermal,' same difference. In fact, Intel using lower features sizes ...

Re: New Rig: GTX vs RTX

I just came back from a tour through the city, looking to buy the Rift. Media Markt, Saturn, Cyberport, GameStop and some other little shop. Here I am, money to spend.. But Nothing! Nobody sells neither Rift or Vive. No wonder why they all are whining and complaining how bad VR sells. Yeah because ...

That's well within human perception.
Which is why movies don't look so hot with 'live action.'

Re: Minimum requirements for laptop

Wait for the 7nm Zen2 laptops. I'm really interested to see their performance as AMD starts leveraging TSMC at 7nm this year. We're about to see AMD leapfrog Intel on CPU, and they already have the GPU ... sans nVidia. But in the middle-of-the-road 15.6" gaming notebook, for US$600-800, I think...

Re: New Rig: GTX vs RTX

Pixmax is why I haven't upgraded from my Oculus Rift.
I seriously looked at the Vive Pro, but I really want to wait on the full market response when it comes to 2nd+ Gen.

Re: Brand new user - seeking system spec help

Thank you SamTargaryen. 4K is a bit beyond what I need, I believe. Elite Dangerous will be the only game I play, and otherwise, my computer use is limited to standard Office applications, browsing/surfing and some Netflix streaming. I have to agree on using 4K for even Windows 10, although Microsof...
