I havent used them myself, but considering how little damage they do when im chasing a cobra NPC that has these (I fly into them on purpose, pretty little 'poof'!), I wouldn't count on them stopping anything from chasing you. They could slightly annoy a sidewinder.. that has no shields.

Flying a glass shoebox (T6 without shields), then figuring "Lets try autodocking, that should be a safe bet"... never again.

Normally when theres a processing program involved it may induce a minute bit of latency, but if it straight up installs as a joystick its gonna be pretty lag free.
