X-52 Pro just arrived :D

Postby LionOfNarnia » Mon Jun 15, 2015 1:15 pm

... so, after this post, don't expect to hear much from me until I've got it set up to my tastes & have re-learned combat using it ;)

First impressions, though:-

a) I expected to have to use it with the 'hand size' thing at max - I'm very much an XXXXL Lion :( but I think my first task will be to raise it to about a mid-position.

b) WOW! It's gonna be SO much fun flying with this kit :D

So see y'all in a day or two - combat simulation here I come!

After using my X-52 for E:D I can't imagine using anything else.

I'm also learning the x-52 (non-pro). I've now removed the 'detent' on the throttle so that I can slide it the full length without sticking (why does that sound rude?). I've also gone against the standard wisdom and decided on full-range for the throttle because I was struggling so much with a button to go into reverse. Loving it now though.

Well, several hours later & I haven't even plugged it in yet!

I've been reading. A lot.

This one is particularly useful - maybe some of you already using Saiteks don't know about this yet, so...

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=26644

One thing I have to say before continuing is:

What a FANTASTIC piece of kit the X-52 is :D

Makes my old T-flight look like a total piece of shit, for sure. The light, smooth feel of the stick & the massive range of movement makes me feel that it was £122 very well spent, even if it took me 2 months and the sale of some 'surplus to current needs' speakers to afford it.

The one tiny negative I have is that the USB lead is way too short. I have my PC quite a long way right of my game screen, and the 'parking area' for the stick (when not flying) is to the left of me, so I had to dig out an old USB hub to get enuff length to make life easy.

I'm sick of reading now, so it's time to install the drivers & software, test the functions, then try to get a first-off of a profile sorted out.

Looks like it'll be late tonight before I get to try it out on the combat sim though, 'life' keeps getting in the way :(

(Such as 'me pup' having some form of explosive diarrhoea this afternoon. Bloody terriers, they snap up every crumb of rubbish they come across on their travels - good job I don't have a beam laser for real around here ;) )

C'est la vie.

The "pinkie" shift switch is great, once you get used to where you've mapped all your functions, then try to remember "do I need a shift with that button to do x" - one thing I found a benefit is to turn off "deploy weapons with fire button" (or close to that description) option in ED controls. I found it was all to easy to accidentally deploy weapons by catching the primary fire button at moments when you really don't want them.

Y'all making me jelly!

Hearing all the great things about the joys of joystick I'm caving in and will go order me a sweet HOTAS setup like the X-52. Maybe even a TrackIR. Then voiceattack and teamspeak.

Voiceattack is really a great help. I have bought also one of the E:D voice packs. But not using it. I found it too distracting. Build my own set of commands. Just a few, mind you. But it's easy and enough for me. In particular very helpfull in combat (managing power systems very fast) and while approaching a station.
A HOTA-system enriches your gaming experience a lot as you might have read already ;-). Bought the 568 combatstick and the pro throttle of CH just for E:D. Quite satisifed.
